10 Must-Haves For Your Swap Box
After joining Greek life on a college campus, one realizes very quickly that they need a box or container full of costumes. This box is known as a swap box… we all have them. Here is a guide to some things you may want to consider keeping in your swap box:
TOGA
Do you college kids still do toga themes? YES! My very first swap was a toga theme, but have no fear, all you need is an old sheet or blanket and some safety pins, and that will do the trick!
Editor’s Suggestion: Wear this to a TOGA PARTY, duhhhh.
Light-Up Shoes
Yes, they are back in style. Let’s be real… we all had some light up shoes that lit up every time you took a step as a child, but now they are back and improved.
Editor’s Suggestion: Almost any kind of swap would be perfect, but especially any eccentric themed swaps! EXAMPLE: Cowboys VS Aliens
Metallic Skirt
After bid day, most girls realize that metallic skirts are a necessity for swap season. Any color will do. Some girls go for silver or gold or even magenta. Whichever suits your personality best is the one for you. These skirts are a vital component to your swap box.
Editor’s Suggestion: These skirts would be perfect for a disco or ’80s themed swap.
GLITTER
Every girl should have a stash of glitter in her home at all time. Glitter can spice up anyone’s costume. Also, glitter makes pictures ten times cuter.
Editor’s Suggestion: Any flashy swap would be a good time for glitter. Or any swap in general!
Hair Cremper
Hair cremping is fun and an excellent way to change it up. Anyone can straighten or curl their hair, but can anyone cremp their hair? EXACTLY. So spice it up, cremp your hair, you will not regret it.
Editor’s Suggestion: Honestly, if you have a hair cremper, cremp your hair every time. IT’S FUN.
Crazy Colored Lipstick
A good friend of mine once said, “I love swap season, I get to wear all of these crazy lipsticks that I will probably never wear again.” Well, she is right. We have all wanted to try out that sky blue lipstick and be like Kylie Jenner, right? I thought so. Try it out at one of your swaps; people will be impressed at how well you pull it off.
Editor’s Suggestion: It just depends on the color for when you should wear it. Use your discernment!
Tacky Christmas Sweaters or Anything Holiday Related
We all know that there will be some holiday themed swap, so just go ahead and pack anything holiday when you pack for school in the summer. I know it does not feel right packing a tacky Christmas sweater or Santa suit in the middle of August, but you will be thankful you did.
Editor’s Suggestion: Have anything Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Halloween, etc. at all times. ALSO, if you ever see someone selling tacky Christmas sweaters on the side of the road, pull over and buy one, I did!
Wigs or Hair Paint
Sometimes people will wear wigs or hair paint even if it does not go with the theme; I mean why not, right? Crazy colored wigs are fun and something you will probably never be able to wear again, so get a few unusual ones. Your Instagram followers will thank you later for the creative pictures.
Editor’s Suggestion: Wear a wig as many times as you can, when else in your life will you?
Fanny Packs
Fanny packs are vital to your college swap life. Who wants to carry around a purse all night? NO ONE! Fanny packs are definitely in style during swap season, so take it in. And if you are lucky, you probably already have one from your sorority from bid day.
Editor’s Suggestion: Wear a fanny pack to all swaps and carry your phone, crazy lipstick and cash inside of it.
Jersey
Having a jersey in your swap box will come in handy in more ways than one. Almost every fraternity has a “Jerseday” or a theme comparable to it. Also, if you have an Ole Miss jersey, you can dress it up for game day!
Editor’s Suggestion: Wear a jersey to “Jerseday” or date dash themed swaps.
