SEC Power Rankings: High Tide Hits Knoxville as Landsharks Are Beached in Arkansas
Tennessee lost for the 10th consecutive time to Alabama and its 39-point home field defeat was one of the worst in Rocky Top’s history. Hours later, touchdown favorite Ole Miss was unable to stop the Razorbacks by land or air as Hog QB Austin Allen threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns. The Rebels have now lost three straight to Arkansas as the contest in many ways was reminiscent of the season opener versus FSU.
In other SEC games, Georgia lost to Vanderbilt 17-16 at homecoming; Florida presented Missouri an 0-3 SEC tally with a 40-14 trouncing and in nonconference action LSU won easily over USM 45-10. Mississippi State took BYU to two over times before falling 28-21. The rankings took a huge reset this week as a result of the latest action…..
Where does Ole Miss go from here? Through six games, the “D” is yielding 30 points per outing which has got to improve drastically in order to salvage the season. With challenging road tests at Baton Rouge and College Station (and now Nashville), the Rebs will get no relief any time soon. And with Auburn’s rediscovery of itself, this pre-Halloween matchup may be a real “trick or treat.” At the midway point, the final scorecard is not looking very promising. However, a win Saturday night against the Bengals could right the ship quickly.
In the marquee headliner this week, the battle of the undefeated takes place in Tuscaloosa as A&M invades. Arkansas is at Auburn; MSU at KY; and three non conference games with UMASS at SC; MTSU at MO; and TN State at Vanderbilt. Florida, Tennessee and Georgia are all off.
