Sons of Confederate Veterans Sue University of Mississippi Over Revised Plaque
Earlier this week, a revised plaque was placed in front the Confederate Statue on the Ole Miss campus. This action caused the Mississippi Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) to revive a lawsuit from 2014 that asks for an injunction to be placed on the action taken by the university to put the plaque in front of the statue. The SCV’s petition states that they do not believe the plaque accurately represents the history behind the statue and its significance. The suit, originally filed in 2014, was dismissed at the time. However, a petition for reinstatement was granted on August 1, 2014.
“The SCV requests that this Honorable Court use its broad powers of equity to … grant an injunction against the University of Mississippi, enjoining and preventing the University of Mississippi from disturbing or otherwise altering, desecrating, attacking, removing or placing any kind or plaque or placard which may in any way change, alter or disturb the significance and meaning of the Confederate Monument,” the petition states.
According to mississippitoday.org, the lawsuit points to Miss. Code Ann. § 55-15-81, a state law that declares no “monuments, memorials or nameplates (plaques)” honoring numerous wars, including the “War Between the States,” not be “relocated, removed, disturbed, altered, renamed or rededicated.”
University officials attempted to get the lawsuit dismissed once again, but Judge Robert Whitwell denied the request in May of 2016. The case was instead moved to circuit court.
HottyToddy.com reached out to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and The University of Mississippi’s Chief Legal Officer, Lee Tyner for a comment and is waiting on a response. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

May The Sons of Confederate Veterans succeed with their battle in court ! Enough is enough Folks.
Historical monuments and statues should never be touched or altered, unless it’s for the purpose of cleaning or repairing.
Certainly not to appease to the ill-informed and misguided fools of this idiotic 21st century, which is now filled with uneducated crybabies and vengeful revisionists who only argue their points of mistreatment within our society by relieving themselves on the brave and gallant souls of yesterday.
Keep on the good fight my fellow Confederates, never stop protecting the good name of our valiant heroes who have literally given and lost everything for their homeland and State.
Wishing everyone a Most Spectacular Dixie Day !

Grow up, Mike. Quit being so politically correct. The Civil War was fought so that southerners could continue owning other people. That’s what the plaque says. It’s ugly, but that’s history. Crybabies like you, though, only want to be told some nursery school version of history where southerners never did anything wrong. It takes a real man to own up to it. And we don’t have time to placate people like you anymore. Go play with your toys.

Howdy Sally. I’m being politically correct ??? I think you’re severely confused.
NO !!! The War of Northern Aggression was fought due to the fact that Lincoln waged war on The South !!! No other reason !!! Yes, a few Southern States have definitely made references of slavery within their declarations of secession, however only a few, the rest of the Southern States have only followed suit when Lincoln declared war on The South and their sister States. As well. don’t confuse the right of secession with the actual conflict of war which was instigated by Lincoln. The South left The Union peacefully. No matter how you slice it or dice it, it was The North which invaded The South and not the other way around. The North was the aggressor ! Would you not defend your home and homeland from invading aggressors ? As that’s what the brave Southern Folks have done.
By the way, slavery was not just a Southern sin, it has been enshrined within the AMERICAN constitution, blacks were considered 3/5 human according to the AMERICAN constitution. You can blame the federal government and the ole’ glory flag for that. Several Northern States had slavery and many Northerners in non slave States have greatly profited from this horrible institution.
You’re obviously one of whom I’ve described in my previous comment, ill-informed and misguided.
Tell you what… I’ll go play with my toys, but only if YOU GROW UP and promise to educate yourself about the conflict which you call Civil War, where in your opinion Southerners are bad and evil while the good Northern Yankee Scum were the heroes.
Here’s a quote from your hero, Lincoln the tyrant.
“I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races – that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything.”
Abraham Lincoln, the Lincoln-Douglas debates, 1858
I must now leave you in order to go play with my toys…

Much Obliged Angela !
I’m a Polish/Canadian Confederate who has been a War Between The States reenactor for a great number of years and I AM very familiar with your beautiful country’s history. Believe it or not a good 10,000 Poles have fought alongside their Southern brothers and almost 60,000 Canadians have taken part in the conflict as well. Mind you 3/4 were on the Union side due to our close border proximity, as well as having been kidnapped from Canada by the Yanks to fight for the Union. Having said that, a good 15,000 have joined The South. The British Colonies(Canada) didn’t condone slavery however many Canadians supported a new Independent South free of an overbearing Federalist government. As you may know, The British were very close to officially assisting the South with their struggle. We’ve had many prominent Confederates operating out of the province of Southern Ontario and Québec. England supplied The South with arms and ships which were built in Liverpool and armed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, we’ve manufactured canons and cannon balls out of Guelph, Ontario. Montréal was full of Confederates at the time and we’ve welcomed them with open arms…Jefferson Davis resided in Southern Ontario and Québec for a period after the war.
Both of our countries are very rich with intertwined history and it’s a shame that the new generation of mongoloids, which is too busy with their stupid texting and reality shows, doesn’t even know 2% of it.
Wishing you a Most Splendid Dixie Day… EH !
