Eating Oxford: Lunching at the Library
Like lunch? Like books? Then listen up. If you’ve never been to a Books & Lunch program at the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library, you’re in for a treat.
These twice-per-month noontime events showcase local authors in an intimate setting.
Not only do you get to hear from some of Oxford’s most beloved authors as they explain the process behind their books, but you’re also invited to ask them questions — all while enjoying a free lunch.
The Books & Lunch event yesterday was with Ed Croom, author of The Land of Rowan Oak. He shared photos from his coffee table photography book and explained why, as a botanist, he’s been so enamored with William Faulkner’s Rowan Oak all of these years. After the presentation, audience members had questions for Croom such as, how the grounds at Rowan Oak are being maintained, why the walkway is lined with cedars, and more.
Previous guests for Books & Lunch have included Jack Pendarvis, Richard Scruggs, Ed Meek, Julie Cantrell and more. Upcoming scheduled guests include David Crews (The Mississippi Book of Quotations) on November 4 and Aimee Nezhukumatathil (2017 Grisham Writer in Residence) on November 17.
In addition to Books & Lunch, the library also hosts a World Film Night every other Tuesday night, featuring classic films with commentary by Dr. Vernon Chadwick. Refreshments are provided. Recent showings have included Frankenstein, Dracula, and Westfront 1918.
