Where To Get Your Workout On In Oxford Without A Gym Membership

Fall has finally arrived, which means the weather is cooling down. It’s time to get outside and enjoy the weather. Being on a college budget can be stressful, but you can still workout with some free and enjoyable spots in Oxford.

Lamar Park

You can never go wrong with Lamar Park. It’s beautiful and has a lovely pond in the middle of it. It’s also kid-friendly.

Sophomore Caroline Stephenson always turns to Lamar Park for exercise.

“Every day after class I try to make it to Lamar Park around 5 p.m. The weather is perfect then; it’s not too hot, and there’s a slight breeze to keep me cool as I exercise,” Stephenson said.

Other students turn to Whirlpool Trails behind Faulkner Flats to get a good hike in.

Sophomore Fairlie Outland is one of them.

“I love Whirlpool Trails because it’s rocky, and you get more of a hiking feeling than you do walking on concrete. It also feels a lot better on my shins walking on gravel than it does on concrete. Concrete can be harsh on my legs sometimes,” Outland said.

Turner Center

For students on campus, the Turner Center supplies a free track above the gymnasium.

Cheerleader Mallory Eline fits the indoor track into her workout routines.

“Being a cheerleader, I have to work out most days of the week to stay in shape. The indoor track at the Turner Center is so convenient because it’s on campus and free. I can always get a quick run in before or after my classes,” Eline said.
