Ole Miss broke a 24-game losing streak against Alabama at home in Tuscaloosa with a victory over the tide in October of 1988.
No. 16 Ole Miss will conclude a four-game home stand Saturday as they step out of conference play action to host the Memphis Tigers.
This game is the 89th homecoming game that the Rebels have played. The first ever homecoming game for Ole Miss was back in 1924. Ole Miss has won the last 17 of 19 years. The Rebels are 71-15-2 overall, and two ties came against Sewanee (1929) and LSU (1960). Both games ended with the final score of 6-6. In which they took the gridiron against Mississippi College. Ole Miss won the game by the score of 10-6.
The homecoming game left in 1942 and did not return until the 1946 season. The Rebels did not play in a homecoming matchup in the 1947 game.
The 1989 homecoming game was against Vanderbilt, and the Ole Miss family will never forget that day. As Chucky Mullins went in to make a tackle on Brad Gaines upon making the tackle, Mullins was paralyzed from the neck down upon that hit.
Homecoming here at the University is a tradition in which alumni get to come back to the ten-acre Grove and meet with old friends and family remembering the time they experienced on this campus.
