Happy Monday and welcome to my very first edition of the Ole Miss Wake-Up Call! Join me every Monday through Friday here at SEC Country, and I’ll fill you in on everything an Ole Miss fan needs to know in order to be the most informed guy at the water cooler, coffee pot, car pool, etc. _
Let’s get started!
Of course, Mondays are always a little better when they follow an Ole Miss win. That’s especially true this week as Rebels fans finally got to see what 60 minutes of intense, turnover-free football looks like. On Saturday, it looked like an absolute thrashing of the then-12th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, as Ole Miss let out its frustrations on the way to a 45-14 victory.
The game was never even close.

After helping Ole Miss to a 45-14 victory over No. 11 Georgia, sophomore Jordan Sims was named Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week by the league office Monday.
The Rebels’ starting right guard helped his team record 510 total yards of offense, the Rebels’ second straight game with more than 500 against a nationally ranked SEC foe. Ole Miss converted all four red-zone attempts in the game and have now converted 17 of 18 chances this season. The Rebel line surrendered just one sack against the Bulldogs.
The big win featured the Rebels’ most points and largest margin of victory ever against Georgia. It was also the largest margin of victory against a nationally ranked team since Ole Miss downed No. 3 Tennessee 38-0 in 1969.
Sims, a native of Homewood, Alabama, is the first Rebel to receive an SEC weekly honor this season.
Senior quarterback Chad Kelly pulled in a pair of honors on Monday, as well. He was named to the Davey O’Brien “Great 8” list and was tabbed Honorable Mention National Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
Ole Miss is back in action this Saturday at 6 p.m. for its homecoming game vs. Memphis at the newly renovated Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Despite a valiant effort in their Southeastern Conference road opener, the Ole Miss volleyball team succumbed to an experienced Missouri team, who came up with the goods on the big points to come away with a tight 3-0 win (25-23, 25-22, 26-24) at the Hearnes Center here Sunday.
Once again, the Rebels struggled to get their middles involved, so they looked to the pin hitters to get it going. Junior outside hitter Lexi Thompson and right side Kathryn Cather kept the Rebels in it.
At 4-4 in set one, Missouri won four straight points to pull ahead 8-4. The Rebels kept battling on a .321 hitting percentage and evened it up at 19-19. Up 21-20, a couple of kills by Mizzou and an attack error by the Rebels allowed the Tigers to regain the lead, 23-21. After Ole Miss pulled to within 23-22 on a kill from Cather, a service error handed Mizzou its first set point, 24-23. The Tigers finished it off 25-23 to take the early 1-0 lead in the match.
Ole Miss came out strong to start set two running out to an 8-4 lead with some big kills from Thompson, forcing Mizzou to call timeout. The Rebels led 15-11 midway through the set, but Mizzou would go on a 4-0 run to tie it at 15. From there, the two teams traded points. With the Rebels leading 20-19, Mizzou won four of the next five points, including two service errors and an attack error by Ole Miss, to take a 23-21 lead. Kate Gibson stopped the bleeding with a big kill, but Missouri notched consecutive kills to close out the set 25-22 and take a 2-0 lead overall.
Seeking to extend the match, the Rebels came out in the third set and gained another lead, 14-11. They later lead 18-14, but Mizzou used a 6-3 run to pull within one, 21-20. At 23-21, Mizzou’s Carly Kan put down her 11th kill of the match and then an attack error by the Rebels tied it at 23. Gibson stepped up and put away the ball to give the Rebels set point, 24-23, but Mizzou finished off the match with three straight kills for 26-24 to remain undefeated against the Rebels at the Hearnes Center (7-0).

Sophomore CeCe Kizer scored her third goal in the last two matches as the Ole Miss soccer team fell to No. 15 Arkansas, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
In a match that required heat timeouts due to the excessive afternoon temperatures, the Rebels (6-6, 1-3 SEC) took control early, but a comeback by the Razorbacks (11-1, 4-0 SEC) was the difference.
Kizer, who scored twice in Thursday’s win over Mississippi State, made it two-straight games with a goal thanks to her score early on. At the 4:49 mark, senior Melissa Capocaccia found Kizer on the breakaway, before she beat the defender, got in a 1-v-1 situation with the goalkeeper and punched a chip shot into the right back corner giving the Rebels a 1-0 advantage.
That score held until midway through the half when Arkansas’ Kayla McKeon provided the equalizer off a deflection in the box after a Razorback corner kick. The two teams went into the halftime break locked at 1-1 as Arkansas led the way in shots, 10-7.
Nine minutes into the second period, Arkansas’ Claire Kelley pushed through a header for the game winner netting the second goal of the day.
The Rebels, who finished with 17 shots, posted many that looked to be on target, but a few missed by just inches. Freshman Gabby Little fired off one in the 31st that sailed in and looked to be on target, but it grazed the left post. Six minutes later, senior Gretchen Harknett had an attempt that hit the crossbar, which came just after another Little shot that was saved by Cameron Carter.
Harknett finished the contest with six of Ole Miss’ 17 shots, while Kizer had four, two of which were on target. Freshman Alley Houghton got in on the action with two shots, one of which was saved, while Maddi Falter, Courtney Carroll and Addie Forbus all took one shot each.
Ole Miss returns to the pitch Saturday, Oct. 1, at Kentucky with first kick slated for 6:30 p.m. in Lexington.
