Oktoberfest Benefits Boys & Girls Club
The first annual Oktoberfest is set to hit Oxford Friday, September 23. While the town will be welcoming guests readying for the Ole Miss v. Georgia football game the next day and the Square will be filling with hungry and thirsty patrons, The Lyric will open its doors to welcome ticketholders to the first ever Oktoberfest benefiting the local Boys and Girls Club.
“The event is planned for the night before the Georgia game,” said Oxford Board Member and event planner Todd Wade. “The Square will be packed and getting in a restaurant will be almost impossible. Instead of fighting the crowds to get a table at a restaurant, we are inviting everyone to Oktoberfest.”
Oktoberfest will kick off at 4 pm and will feature unlimited German craft beers, German-inspired cuisine, and music to compliment the theme. Ticketholders may come at any time, but the first 150 guests will receive a souvenir glass beer stein.
“We want this to be authentic,” said Wade. “We will have music from the Oom-Pah-Sters, authentic German fare, and beer, and servers dressed to match the atmosphere.”
Overnight The Lyric will be transformed from its normal concert hall into a German pub. Guests can expect to walk in and feel as if they have been transported to a true Oktoberfest celebration. While attendees are enjoying all you can eat and drink German beer and cuisine, they will also be benefitting a local nonprofit.
“I’ve thought for years that this kind of event would do well in Oxford,” said Wade. “And now we have a great cause for it, the Boys and Girls Club.”
The LOU Boys and Girls Club is located in Oxford and serves 160 children between the ages of 6-18 every day after school and in the summer. The local club offers a safe place for children, consistent relationships with caring adults, tutoring, recreation, and classes to help members become productive, caring, and responsible citizens in their future.
Tickets are $40 and may be purchased on The Lyric website at www.thelyricoxford.com.
