Oxford Crime Report: Thursday, August 18 – 32 Arrests, Microwave Fire
Oxford police responded to the following calls: eight suspicious activities, three alarms, two illegally parked cars, two disturbances, a simple assault, a reported public intoxication, a 911 hang-up call, a noise violation, a fire department assistance, a shoplifting, a motorist assist, a petit larceny, a scam, a reported DUI driver, a malicious mischief, a welfare concern, a civil matter and a auto burglary (North Lamar Boulevard)
Oxford police investigated 14 wrecks, issued 24 traffic citations and made 32 arrests on the following charges:

(5) Minors in possession of alcohol
(3) Public intoxications and fake IDs
(3) Shopliftings
(2) Possessions of drug paraphernalia
Warrant served
Careless driving and DUI
Running a red light, no insurance and DUI
Speeding and possession of drug paraphernalia
No seatbelt and minor in possession of alcohol
Speeding, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI
Careless driving and minor in possession of alcohol
Careless driving, no driver’s license and no car insurance
Obstructing traffic, suspended driver’s license, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI
No headlights, careless driving, possession of Schedule III narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI
Lafayette Sheriff’s department responded to the following incidents: four alarms, four service calls, four suspicious activities, three traffic complaints, three disturbances, two civil matters, two welfare concerns, an accident, an animal complaint, a harassment, a transportation, and a follow-up.
University police responded to the following incidents: four vehicle stops, a public drunk at Stockard Hall, EMS request due to intoxication at Residental Hall 2, and an accidental hit and run at Crosby.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Smoke detector malfunction at 12:13 p.m. at Phi Kappa Tau house
Smoke detector activation at 2:11 p.m. due to heavy smell of cleaning chemicals on the fourth floor in janitor’s closet at Stewart Hall
Smoke detector activation at 5:15 p.m. due to smoke from the grill at Captain D’s
Fire at 2:23 a.m. (August 19) due to something in microwave burning at Stockard Hall – the fire went out before arrival
