Oxford Crime Report: Wednesday, August 17 – Counterfeit Currency, Hit and Run
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: five alarms, five suspicious activities, four complaints of lost property, three noise violations, three 911 hang-up calls, two motorist assists, two animal complaints, a disturbance, a reported DUI driver, a welfare concern, a fire department assist, a civil matter and a counterfeit currency.
Oxford police investigated five wrecks, issued 23 traffic citations and made five arrests on the following charges:

No seatbelt and possession of drug paraphernalia
Public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia
Ran a stop sign, possession of Schedule IV narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia
Lafayette Sheriff’s department responded to the following incidents: 12 service calls, six accidents, four civil matters, three disturbances, three suspicious activity, three welfare concerns, two animal complaints, a malicious mischief, a scam, a transportation, an identity theft, a recovered stolen vehicle and a follow-up.
Lafayette Sheriff’s department made two arrests on the following charges:
Suspended driver’s license
Warrant for simple assault
University police responded to the following incidents: five vehicle stops, EMS request due to an intoxicated person at Crosby Hall, accidental hit and run on Sorority Row and a vehicle wreck at Guyton Drive.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Fire alarm at 11:16 a.m. but no alarm was found at Lamar Center
Smoke detector activation at 12:29 p.m. caused by a person smoking at Brown Hall
Smoke detector malfunction at 3:15 p.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital
