Oxford Crime Report: Thursday, August 4 – Burglary, Fire at Sigma Chi
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: nine suspicious activities, five disturbances, five alarms, three welfare concerns, two ambulance assists, two fire department assists, two petit larcenies, an animal complaint, a grand larceny, a scam, a malicious mischief and a burglary at Josh Street.
Oxford police investigated eight wrecks, issued 21 traffic citations and made two arrests on the following charges:

Lafayette Sheriff’s department responded to the following incidents: six information calls, two accidents, two disturbances, two service calls, two suspicious activities, two welfare concerns, two civil matters, an animal complaint, a domestic violence, a grand larceny, a transportation, a trespassing and a reckless driver.
Lafayette Sheriff’s department made two arrests on the following charges:
Public drunk
Disorderly conduct
University police responded to the following incidents: two vehicle stops, service call for an ambulance at Hefley Hall, service call for a suspicious person at Minor Hall, and an intoxicated driver at Turner Center.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Smoke detector malfunction at 9:45 a.m. at Townhouse Suites by Marriott
Water flow alarm malfunction at 3:05 p.m. at Winchester
Smoke detector activation at 4:55 p.m. caused by cutting granite at Madison Apartments at 107 North 13th Street
A wreck with no entrapment at 5:07 p.m. at Highway 7 North and County Road 201
Fire at 9:03 p.m. that occurred when a bird’s nest within a light fixture caught fire at Sigma Chi house – the residents put the fire out but called the fire department to make sure everything was ok.
