Catherine Carver Named Assistant Softball Coach at Northwest
Northwest Mississippi Community College head softball coach Mike Rowan has announced the hiring of Catherine Carver as assistant softball coach for the Rangers.
“I’m very excited and nervous at the same time,” Carver said. “I’m blessed to have this opportunity so early in my coaching career. Hopefully I can bring my softball knowledge as a player and relationships I’ve established with coaches around DeSoto County to make an impact at Northwest.”
Carver was a two-time all-north division second baseman at Itawamba Community College in 2013-14, helping the Indians to a combined 68-18-1 record and two north division titles under head coach Andy Kirk.
She was the MACJC Player of the Week as a freshman after hitting a pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the seventh to help then ranked No. 20 ICC beat Gadsden State 8-4 on the road. As a sophomore, she was an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and received NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement honors.
The Hernando native was a .310 lifetime hitter for the Indians with four home runs, 24 doubles, 55 RBIs, 89 runs scored and 24 stolen bases.
“I’m extremely excited about Cat joining the Northwest softball program,” Rowan said. “She’ll bring a lot of energy and excitement to the table. She knows this league and what it takes to win.”
Prior to ICC, Carver was a four-time all-conference shortstop at Hernando High School and also played volleyball and soccer. She was a Best of the Preps Scholar Athlete of the Year finalist as a senior and graduated ninth in her class.
Carver will finish her bachelor’s in education with a concentration in social studies from Delta State in December and will be student teaching this fall at Southaven High School.
Carver replaces Carie Dever Boaz who left in June to become the head softball coach at West Alabama.
