The Yalobusha Giants 10U baseball team, coached by Dr. Jason Farese, traveled to Elizabethtown, KY for the Youth Baseball Nationals July 22 to 28 and brought home the Championship!
The opening ceremonies featured 60 teams ages nine to 14 from the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. The 10U Yalobusha Giants defeated the East Macome Muskies from Macome, Michigan; the Legends Prospects from Middleton, Massachusetts; the Oakland, Indians from Oakland, Michigan; and the Titans from Chesapeake, Virginia.
“These guys worked extremely hard all year and it was fun to see all of the hard work pay off in a tournament with this level of competition. Our hitting improved throughout the year and being able to use the indoor facility at the Oxford-Lafayette Sportsplex is invaluable, ” said Yalobusha Giants 10U coach, Jason Farese. “We have a great group of parents and my assistant coaches put in a lot of time as well. We played major baseball all year long and playing against those teams prepared us to play at a tournament at this level. I am excited to see how these boys progressed.”
Overall, the Giants went 6-1 in the tournament with a batting average of 0.417 and scoring 68 runs. The Giants pitching was equally impressive with an ERA of 2.74 and 38 strikeouts.
In addition to winning the Youth Baseball National Championship, the 10U Giants swept the skills challenges which consisted of individual skills such as running bases, pitching accuracy, home run derby and an around the horn competition.
