Perez to Represent Venezuela in 2016 Summer Olympics
Recent Ole Miss Basketball graduate Anthony Perez will represent his home country of Venezuela in the 2016 Summer Olympics games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil beginning Saturday.
A four-year letter winner for the Rebels, who helped Ole Miss to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, Perez is one of 12 members of Venezuelan National Team that opens group play against Serbia Saturday. Venezuela and Perez will face the United States Monday, August 8 in Group A play.
A native of Cumana, Venezuela, Perez also represented his country in 2015 during a summer exhibition tour against collegiate teams and during the 2009 FIBA U-16 Championships and South America U-17 Championships.
Perez is one of nine current or former Rebels representing their home country in the summer games, joining Gwen Berry (track and field, USA), Antwon Hicks (110-meter hurdles, Nigeria), Sam Kendricks (pole vault, USA), Connie Price-Smith (track and field, USA) Brittney Reese (long jump, USA), Ricky Robertson (high jump, USA), Raven Saunders (shot put, USA) and Rafaelle Souza (soccer, Brazil).
