Oxford Designates Nine Parking Spaces for Taxi Drivers
The city of Oxford has now designated nine spots for taxi drivers to park their vehicles on Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. outside of the Library and Funky’s.
Five of the designated parking spots are in front of Funky’s, and the remaining four are across from The Library in front of South Depot.
Any city-registered taxi can park in any of those nine spots. However, neither Uber nor designated drivers may use those parking spots.
There are currently signs on the meters to signify the designated spots and the Oxford police department will be putting out larger signs to show those designations.
Major Jeff McCutchen said, “What we want to do for the first week or so is if you’re there we’re going to give you a warning citation and try to get up with you to get you to move. Our biggest fear is that someone comes in for a late dinner and they missed the sign and have had a couple of drinks and now they’re stuck and we don’t want to have to ticket and tow that person.”
The designated taxi parking will begin this weekend. With students coming back into town over the next few weeks the OPD is vehemently trying to make sure that people are aware of the permitted taxi spots through the media and their social media pages.

Will the police make sure that only 1 taxi occupies each spot. Most nights there are two or more cabs parked in the road in front of Bouree’Ajax in the single space
Also, the crosswalk in front of Southside Gallery is NOT a Bus stop for the Inn at Ole Miss or the Taxis. There has to be a safer place to drop off the passengers without blocking traffic for ten or more minutes at a time
