5 Ole Miss players who could go from under the radar to All-SEC by season’s end

Last week, the crowd in Hoover submitted ballots for the preseason All-SEC teams. The final list included five Rebels: Chad Kelly dominated the voting for first-team quarterback, tight end Evan Engram and DB Tony Conner made the second team, and offensive guard Javon Patterson and defensive end Marquis Haynes landed on the third.

Those aren’t the only Ole Miss players who have a shot of landing on the postseason all-conference list, however. Listed below are a handful of guys to watch.

To be clear, I’m not predicting that all of these guys will indeed end up being All-SEC, nor am I factoring in the competition at a given position around the league. This is simply a list of Rebels who I believe have the potential for breakout seasons that could put them in contention.

Hugh Freeze talks mental edge over Alabama on SportsCenter

Coach-Hugh-Freeze-NSDHow has Ole Miss taken down college football’s Goliath in consecutive seasons?

Believing.

Rebels coach Hugh Freeze made the rounds on ESPN’s Mike & Mike and SportsCenter early Tuesday during the SEC Coaches Car Wash in Bristol and was asked several times about his team’s success against Alabama.

“I think our kids respect Alabama, but they don’t fear Alabama,” Freeze said. “I think we have an attitude about us. We want to be where they are. Our guys kind of take the way our coaches approach it.”

Ole Miss upset top-ranked Alabama in Oxford, 23-17, in 2014 before winning last season in Tuscaloosa, 43-37. The Rebels built a 20-point lead late in the third quarter before the Crimson Tide made a spirited run to get back into the game.

“I’ve always been one that really liked the challenge and let’s be candid, they’ve been the gold standard in our conference,” Freeze said. “I have great respect for Nick (Saban). I’ve made up my mind that I was going to set the tone with our guys. We went there our first year with very little talent and played them toe-to-toe.

We at OleHottyToddy.com have taken it into our hearts to try to predict the 2016 SEC West standings, this should be interesting.

I know most people scoff at predictions, usually because they are always wrong. But I guarantee that these predictions will be 100% accurate, go ahead and take them to Vegas.

Ole Miss Rebels

The Ole Miss team is one of the most hyped teams in the country. Chad Kelly is one of the best returning quarterbacks in the nation. If the Rebels can continue this domination on offense, and the defense can step up, the Rebels could be lethal.

Ole Miss is looking to have the best season in school history this season, but will have a tough row to hoe. With a schedule like this one, and with an NCAA investigation hanging over their heads, the Rebels could be facing some trouble.

Game one is a tough one for the Rebels, as they head down to Orlando to play Florida State on Monday Night Football. If the Rebels can stop the Seminole offense, and continue to dominate on offense, the Rebels should win.

Prediction: 11-1; first in the SEC West
