Ole Miss Graduate Continues Moving Business In North Carolina
Zach Dougher started Rebels On The Move last summer as a way to curb boredom and earn extra cash. Little did he know his idea would make him self-employed by graduation.
Rebels On The Move is a moving service in Oxford. Dougher has 10 movers and three utility trailers to help move students and Oxford residents to and from dorms, houses and storage units. This summer the business has already completed 60 moves.
“I saw this as a niche,” said Dougher. “…and at the same time, I could employ my friends and kids taking summer classes.”
The moving company is one of the most affordable in Oxford. Customers pay $35 an hour per worker and an extra $30 a day for a utility trailer. Dougher joked that packing the trailers is like a game of Tetris. He said, “We’ve got it down to a science.”
After Dougher finishes his last class at Ole Miss in August he’s going back to Raleigh, North Carolina. He will manage and advertise the business from home. This summer he’s been prepping his team to take on operational management positions for when he leaves.
Dougher wants to expand his moving company. He plans to set up a similarly structured business in Raleigh to cater to North Carolina State students.
“My dad’s a contractor so we’ve always done stuff ourselves. I’ve always been a hands-on type of person,” Dougher said.
