New Galleria II Building Catches Fire, Flames Extinguished
Today, drivers on Jackson Avenue near Galleria I and the newly-forming Galleria II saw billowing smoke rising from the building that will house Ross Dress for Less.
Oxford firefighters quickly responded to the scene upon receiving the call at 1:53 p.m. and put out the fire. According to the fire department, the construction workers were placing a rubber roof on the top of the building when it caught on fire.
Real-estate developer John Trezevant who owns Galleria II where the fire was said that “very little damage was done.”
“Sparks from the welders’ tools set the insulation on fire,” he said, “But now everyone’s back to work.”
Oxford Galleria II LLC is a 21-acre development soon to feature 220,00 square feet of high-end shops, restaurants and specialty stores such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Marshall’s, Ulta Comestic, Five Below and Shoe Carnival to name a few among 25 shops and restaurants. The remainder of the stores and restaurants will be announced soon this month by John Trezevant.
