Oxford Crime Report: Thursday, July 7 – Report of Gunshots, Fire
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 10 alarms, two suspicious activities, two disturbances, a report of gunshots, an animal complaint, a lost property, a larceny, a simple assault, harassing phone calls, a careless driving, a welfare concern, and an ambulance assist.
Oxford police investigated seven wrecks, issued 22 traffic citations and made four arrests on the following charges:
Shoplifting
Public drunkenness
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Possession of drug paraphernalia and warrant served
Lafayette Sheriff’s Department responded to the following incidents: five disturbances, four service calls, three suspicious activity, three transportations, two welfare concerns, two harassments, two accidents, an alarm, an animal complaint, a residential burglary on Highway 6, a petit larceny, a malicious mischief, a scam, a traffic complaint, a recovered stolen property and a fire department assistance.
Lafayette Sheriff’s Department made three arrests on the following charges:
Contempt of the Circuit Court
Warrant for simple assault
Child support and contempt of court
University police responded to the following incidents: two service calls for ambulances at Guyton Hall and Residential College, a public drunk on Rebel Drive and a vehicle stop on campus.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Smoke detector activation at 10:10 a.m. caused by worker cutting sheet rock and painting at Crosby Hall
Cancelled call at 2:49 p.m. at Oxford Health & Rehab
Fire at 4:02 p.m. caused by a resident heating oil and then going upstairs to play video games when the oil then caught fire and burned the cabinets at 136 Greystone
Gas leak at 4:42 p.m. where an auto repair shop reported a vehicle with a gas leak at 1431 North Lamar
Friday, July 8
Smoke detector malfunction at 1:05 a.m. and 1:31 a.m. at 800 College Hill Road
Smoke detector malfunction at 1:17 a.m. at Turnberry Condominiums
