Colby Bortles Takes Part in the College Baseball Home Run Derby
On Sunday evening, July 3, some of the best sluggers in all of college baseball will step between the chalk of T.D. Ameritrade Stadium to take part in the 2016 College Home Run Derby. The event will start at 7:30 p.m. C.T. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
The Ole Miss Diamond Rebels will have one competitor in the event in junior third baseman Colby Bortles. In all, a total of eight contestants will swing for the fences in hopes of claiming the 2016 College Home Run Derby crown. Joining Bortles will be: Dylan Busby (Florida State), Greg Deichmann (LSU), Hagen Owenby (East Tennessee State), Brent Rooker (Mississippi State), Reid Russell (Lamar), Gary Russo (Miami OH) and one player to be determined.
This past season, Bortles ranked second on the club in homers with eight while driving in a total of 50 RBI.
Bottles now becomes the second Rebel to participate in the College Home Run Derby over the past three years. When the Rebels made their run to the College World Series in 2014, Sikes Orvis was one of the event’s competitors.
Ole Miss media production produced a short little promo video (seen above) for the College Baseball Home Run Derby.
At the conclusion of the event there will be a fireworks display.
