In the thriving city of Oxford, and with only one store location, Johnson’s Furniture Store has been serving the community for the past 49 years.

The owner of the store, Jimmy Johnson, grew up near Banner, Mississippi. Johnson moved to Oxford in 1967, just two years before the store’s initial opening. Johnson saw the store opening as a chance for immense success and thus it has been for nearly five decades.

“At the time, I believe that he saw it as a growing community rather than just a college town,” said Rob Freeman, the general manager of Johnson’s Furniture Store.

IMG_4623With the summer at its peak, the store is expecting an infinite variety of customers. The growing Oxford community brings about infinite possibilities, and the new students arriving on campus allow for businesses in the area to grow and expand. The rapid construction projects including houses, condos and new apartments, bring together all types of students, both new and returning to the furniture store.

Some of the customers, as well as Ole Miss students, spare no expense when it comes to decorating their new living spaces with Ole Miss Rebel emblems and paraphernalia. Catering to some customers can be a bit of a challenge, especially when there are those who are frugal and careful about spending exceedingly.

“We are able to meet their needs no matter the price range they choose,” Freeman said.

Surprisingly, Johnson’s Furniture’s competitors are not located in Oxford. In fact, Tupelo, Memphis and other Northern Mississippi furniture outlets are among Johnson Furniture’s biggest competitors. On the flip side, several clients come from Jackson due to the employees’ knowledge of the industry and the elite prices.

The store’s sales are usually offered throughout the year, without any coercion involved. For college students, nothing beats pleasant shopping like a good sale. Oftentimes, Johnson’s offers exclusive top brand names at great prices.

Johnson’s is located at 2128 Jackson Avenue West within Oakwood Plaza Shopping Center. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday to Saturday, Johnson’s can be contacted via phone at 662-234-7711. Be sure to visit its website to browse merchandise: www.johnsonsfurnitureonline.com.

Love this place. Rob has sold us numerous pieces since we moved to Oxford 4 years ago and he always takes great care of us and does whatever he can to make the deal happen. We stopped going to Southaven and Tupelo to go to Ashleys and Stash and other satores becuase if he doesnt have what we want, he goes through what he can get. Great place and we will be loyal customers while living here in the future.
