Two-Man Scramble Competition Gives Back To Local Students
Oxford University Bank is sponsoring a two-man scramble golf tournament this weekend that will give scholarships to Oxford and Lafayette high school grads who want to attend Ole Miss.
“We want to keep our smartest leaders here,” said Lafayette-Oxford University board president, Grant Boone.
“We don’t want them going away for college and having the opportunity to never come back,” he said jokingly.
The scramble kicks off on Saturday at 7:45 a.m. at the Ole Miss Golf Course. There are 100 teams set to compete and a few teams on the waiting list. The fundraising event will continue at Rafter’s Bar and Grill Saturday night at 6 p.m with a Calcutta dinner.
Anyone is able to purchase a $25 wristband for the event at Rafter’s. The dinner will include a taco/fajita bar catered by My Michelle’s and Yalobusha beer will be served. There will also be an auction.
On Sunday, the scramble will continue on and cash prizes will be awarded. The tournament will also be presenting a check to the university’s alumni association. The alumni association will choose the students who will receive this year’s scholarships.
Boone said the scholarships give “…somebody a chance to go to Ole Miss, that otherwise wouldn’t be able to.”
