2016 Destination Oxford Cruise and Car Show To Be Held Memorial Weekend
The 2016 Destination Oxford Cruise and Car Show presented by Belk Ford and hosted by The Bullseye 95.5 will hold its first car show in Oxford on Memorial Day weekend on May 27 and 28, at the Oxford Conference Center.
Destination Oxford will offer door prizes, $2,000 in cash prizes and trophies in 10 different categories. According to Jason Plunk, president of The Bullseye radio station, a wide variety of cars from various areas have already registered for the car show.
“We’ve had calls as far away as Gulfport, Alabama (and) Johnston, Tennessee,” Plunk said. “Rat rods, hot rods, street rods…There’s gonna be cars from the 20s that’s gonna be there.”
Plunk also said to expect to see ’57 Chevrolets, convertibles, station wagons, trucks. “You never know what might show up,” Plunk said.
Plunk has been busy gathering door prizes from around Oxford for the car show. Door prizes such as tools from Sears, gift certificates from local businesses, a bag from GNC, two free oil changes at Deal’s Auto Repair, a professional Bona hardwood floor mop from Stout’s Flooring and much more.
“It’s (the car show) gonna be the first one Oxford’s had in about a decade,” Plunk said. “It’s gonna be at the Oxford Conference Center. Hope to see you there!”
The cost to attend the car show is free, but it is $25 to register a car to show. All cars registered must be dated back to atlas 1971 and older. The show kicks off Friday, May 27, at 4 p.m. for a registration and cruise-in. On Saturday, May 28, registration starts again at 8 a.m. and the car show begins at 9 a.m., followed by cruise around the Square at 2 p.m.
