It was reported to HottyToddy.com at about 12:05 pm and confirmed by Asst. Principal Cindy Bigham that Della Davidson Elementary School in Oxford was on lockdown earlier. HottyToddy.com has reporters on site and has confirmed that the lockdown has been lifted as confirmed by this statement by Oxford Police Major Sheridan Maiden.

“We had an incident unrelated to the school with a suspect possibly passing counterfeit money at one of the hotels nearby,” Maiden said. “He ran from the hotel toward the school, which was put on lockdown temporarily. Now the lockdown has been lifted.”

Oxford School District Superintendent Brian Harvey issued a statement: “An incident near two Oxford schools prompted Oxford School District officials to take precautionary measures to protect students at the time. Della Davidson Elementary School was put on lockdown and Oxford High School held students in place within the school building. The Oxford Police Department was pursuing suspects in the vicinity of the schools at the time that both schools were holding students in place.

Thanks to the Oxford Police Department and our School Resources Officers (SROs), three suspects were caught and are now in custody. At this time, both schools are no longer holding students in place. No students or staff were harmed during the incident.”

The hotels nearby are the TownePlace Suites by Marriott and a Hampton Inn.
