Diamond Rebels Prepare to Begin SEC Tournament Play
SEC fans, it is time once again for twelve schools to meet in Hoover, Alabama for the 2016 SEC Tournament. This year’s tournament will run from Tuesday to Sunday, May 24 to 29.
Tuesday, May 24, is a must-win day for each school to advance into the double elimination round that begins on Wednesday, May 25.
Ole Miss enters the tournament as the seventh seed in the tournament and will open the tournament up against the 10th seed Georgia. The Rebels are coming off a weekend after dropping two-of-three games to the Texas A&M Aggies to close out the regular season.
The Rebels and Bulldogs will take the field at 1:00 p.m. or thirty minutes after the first game ends.
Ole Miss catcher Henri Lartigue leads all SEC catchers with a .358 batting average, including a .371 clip in SEC play. His teammate J.B. Woodman leads the SEC with 13 home runs. He is also hitting .407 (24-for-59) with runners in scoring position.
Let’s take a closer look at Georgia.
Playing one of the toughest schedules in the country, Georgia enters the tournament with a 27-29 record, including 11-19 in SEC play. Closing out the regular season, the Bulldogs lost two-of-three at home to Tennessee. Junior Skyler Weber leads Georgia with team highs in batting average (.315), doubles (13) and steals (13). Michael Curry provides power at the plate, ranking among the conference leaders in home runs with 11. On the mound, senior Heath Holder (4-4, 3.34 ERA) holds the best record among UGA’s starting pitchers, and he will get the ball against the Rebels. Scott Stricklin is in his third season as the Bulldogs’ head coach.
Coach Mike Bianco will send to the hill Brady Bramlett to face the Dawgs. Georgia will send Heath Holder to the mound.
The winner of this game will move into the double elimination part of the tournament and take on South Carolina.
