Art Crawl, Parchman Book Launch and Old Time Piano World Championship This Week
Monday, May 23
Oxford Elementary School students are holding a reception from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to exhibit their artwork at the Shelter on Van Buren.

Tuesday, May 24
UM Museum is holding a reception for its exhibit, “Gods and Men: Iconography and Identity in the Ancient World,” from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at its address located at University Avenue and 5th Street.
According to the museum’s release, “This exhibit takes a closer examination of the image of ancient gods, kings, and the common man. Their depictions contain a visual language, once easily understood throughout the ancient world.”
The exhibition will go on until August 24, 2016. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is free.
This May’s Art Crawl returns on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The featured locations that the attendees will enjoy after-hours access to are The Powerhouse, University of Mississippi Museum, Gallery 130 at Meek Hall, High Point Coffee, Shelter on Van Buren and Southside Gallery. If the weather permits, the attendees will enjoy a lovely ride on the iconic double decker bus.
VOX Press and Louis Bourgeois are launching a book featuring stories written by a select number of prisoners at the Mississippi State Penitentiary (also known as Parchman Farm) as part of VOX Press’ Prison Writes Initiative.
The book launch and the prison art auction are taking place Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Southside Gallery.
Thursday, May 26
The city of Oxford will host the World Championship of Old-Time Piano Playing Contest and Festival from Thursday, May 26 to Monday, May 30. The festivities start at Proud Larry’s with the Tune-Up party at 8:00 that will cost $15 to attend.
