The Oxford Chargers are just one win away from back-to-back 5A state crowns. This afternoon, Oxford Chargers will meet Hattiesburg Tigers in between the lined chalk again for game two of the best-of-three series with the first pitch at 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday night, the Chargers defeated Hattiesburg by the score of 5-3 at Trustmark Park.  Oxford’s pitcher Jason Barber threw his last game in his high school career to win game one. Barber didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning where he hit two batters and committed an error that allowed two Hattiesburg players to come in to score.

Barber gave up five hits while striking out a total of six batters in his complete game.

The Chargers runs came from Grae Kessinger, Drew Bianco and Thomas Dillard. Barber had three hits in the game to go along with his outing on the mound. Bianco had a double in the game while Dillard hit a triple.

This afternoon, Oxford coach Chris Baughman will give the ball to Houston Roth to face Hattiesburg.
