Softball Earns No. 9 Seed in SEC Tournament

@olemisspix
After completion of the regular season Sunday, Ole Miss softball has earned the No. 9 seed for the 2016 SEC Softball Tournament, set to open Wednesday at Nusz Park in Starkville, Miss.
The Rebels will open play against No. 8 seed Georgia at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The winner of the 8/9 game will advance on to play No. 1 seed Florida at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Ole Miss finished the regular season with an 11-13 record in SEC play, five wins better than a year ago, tied for the most conference victories in school history (2007), finishing just a game behind Georgia in the league standings.
The matchup between the two teams on Wednesday will be the fourth this season as Ole Miss took a game from then No. 14 Georgia just over a week ago in Athens. The Rebels and Bulldogs also met in the opening round of the SEC Tournament just a year ago in Baton Rouge, as Ole Miss fell in just its fourth appearance all-time in the conference tournament.
Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and Auburn earned the top four seeds in this year’s tournament, which allows them a bye in the first round. The 8/9 game was originally scheduled to be played at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, but the host institution, Mississippi State, is allowed to choose their game time for the opening round, and will play No. 5 Alabama in that slot to close out day one’s action.
All SEC Tournament contests can be seen live on the ESPN family of networks, with Wednesday and Thursday’s games set to air on SEC Network.

Grenada Linebacker adding offers

J.J. Russell out of Grenada, Miss., has seen his stock rise as of late. This includes the college just 35 miles down the road
“Things are way better now,” Russell said about Ole Miss. “Me and coach (Matt) Luke have grown tighter since I took my last visit there for their junior day. We have just gotten a lot tighter now. I’m also talking to coach (Dave) Wommack a lot. We have been going over how they would use me in their defense. He wants me to start out at Stinger (linebacker). Now I feel like I have a comfortable relationship with those guys. We see each other and just have that connection.”
The last visit to Ole Miss gave him a behind the scene look into their program.
“It was great. I got a chance to meet all of their coaches and build a relationship with everybody. Like I said, I have been talking to them a lot since I visited. They came and watched me practice the other day. Their interest in me has really picked up. I also got a chance to tour the academic center. I just got a better look at the college, inside out. I only live 40 minutes down the road from their campus, but I’ve never got an inside look at everything until this past trip. I really got a better feel for their academic programs and how everything is run academically.”
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker would like to major in Accounting.
