Ole Miss Senior Offers Encouragement to Other Graduates

Sara McDaniel, an alumna of Greenville Christian School and native of Greenville, Mississippi, is a soon-to-be graduate from the University of Mississippi School of Education and wrote this blog post to encourage other graduates:

Graduation is just around the corner, and while that is a very exciting time, it can also be a very worrisome time. You’ve finally (4-5 years and several thousand dollars later) finished college, only to find that all those job offers you expected to be rolling in are nowhere to be found. It can be so easy to get discouraged or feel like you’ve wasted your time. I have been using this time to put truly to practice the phrase “Let go and let God”. I have tried (and keep telling myself daily) to let go of the worry that I have about things because God is truly in control. He always knows what I need and where I need to be, and it’s up to me to let Him place me there.

This mindset has allowed me to enjoy really this last little bit of time I have left in college because this is a precious time I will never get back. My time in college has taught me many things about my major, myself, and how awesome God is. Every single time I have had a worry or a struggle, He has been there, and I know that searching for a job isn’t any different. He has used so many friends and family members to encourage me daily.

The Bible speaks of peace beyond understanding, and I have experienced that several times, including my job, search now. That same peace is what led me to choose elementary education as a major in the first place, so obviously if God put me here, He will help me succeed. To all of my friends for whom the end of the tunnel has come, and there is no light: there is always a light.

PS: As I was writing this post, a friend tagged me in an old photo of one of the best teachers I have ever had. I’ll take that as a sign!
