Woodman Named National Hitter of the Week
One day after collecting Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors, Ole Miss junior outfielder J.B. Woodman was named National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon. Throughout last week, Woodman dominated all aspects of the game to earn the recognition.
Woodman is the first Rebel to be named a NCBWA National Player of the Week since Bobby Wahl was National Pitcher of the Week (April 25, 2012). However, he is the second Ole Miss baseball player to collect a national weekly award this season. Ole Miss ace Brady Bramlett earned Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week accolades (April 11) following a masterful performance versus No. 21 Arkansas.
Facing four top-10 teams last week did not seem to faze Woodman. The Orlando, Florida native recorded two hits in each of the four games, hitting at a .500 clip throughout the week. Woodman went 6-for-12 with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI and five runs in the weekend series versus No. 8 LSU to help Ole Miss conquer the SEC rivalry series. He not only led the Rebels at the plate, but also in the field. From his center field position, Woodman threw three runners out at the plate and now has a team-high nine outfield assists this season.
In the series opener against LSU, Woodman gunned down a pair of runners at home which proved to be the difference in a one-run game. In game two, he belted a two-run homer and threw another Tiger out at the plate. Woodman made sure the Rebels took the series finale, hitting a pair of home runs to deep center field and driving in a career-high four runs. Extending his home run count to a team-leading eight, Woodman became the first Rebel to homer twice in one game since Orvis accomplished the feat last season (May 3, 2015 at Missouri).
As a team captain, Woodman has been a leader on and off the field all season long. He leads Ole Miss in multi-hit games (18), hits (54), home runs (8), RBI (38), runs (36) and steals (9), while also ranking among the top Rebels in batting average (.329) and doubles (11). Known for his clutch hitting, Woodman is 21-for-46 (.457) with runners in scoring position this season.
Woodman will look to continue his strong play as the Rebels host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the final home midweek game of the season (May 4). First pitch from Swayze Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on SECN+.

So glad they recognized him! He should have been all-around player of the week. He did it all! So proud. I am hoping the Rebels are gearing up to peak in Omaha!
