Ole Miss boosters, alumni and faithful fans filed into the Oxford Conference Center bright and early at 7 a.m. Friday morning to welcome home Ole Miss football head coach Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss Athletics director Ross Bjork during the fourth annual Rebel Road Trip sponsored by Bancorp South.

Hugh Freeze gave a rousing speech this morning in Oxford Conference Center.

During the tour, Hugh Freeze and Ross Bjork traveled by bus to nine different stops around the Southeast this week to thank fans by sharing in the Rebels’ former successes and future aspirations in athletics. Attendees started the event with a breakfast buffet and short film, and even an “Are You Ready?” chant to energize the crowd. Bancorp South treated fans to powder blue cups and the Ole Miss Athletics department put the Sugar Bowl Trophy on display to give some a chance to snap a quick photo and admire the Ole Miss keepsake.

Now the bus tour has come to an end for now. It will return for July 18-18 with stops in Memphis, Tennessee and Jackson, Mississippi.

The Magnolia Bowl, Egg Bowl and Sugar Bowl trophies were on the journey.

The first two speakers at the Oxford Conference Center were University of Mississippi chancellor Jeffery Vitter and Ross Bjork, followed by Ole Miss coaches Mike Bianco and Hugh Freeze. All four highlighted the achievements Ole Miss has accomplished in both the classroom and on the field, continually drawing an applause from the fans.

Huge Freeze’s speech was especially inspiring. He concluded the speeches and his own with a sports metaphor on how to tackle one’s own goals in life and the “mental toughness” to stay in the game.

And by the way, do you know what Ole Miss football and the Moon have in common? If you ask Chancellor Vitter, he’ll say “They both control the Tide.”
