Ole Miss Softball Breaks Record With 31st Season Running Win
This past Wednesday the Rebels softball team made history by taking down the Memphis Tigers for the team’s 31st win, breaking the program’s single-season win record.
“Breaking the record was special for us because it was something we wanted to do from the beginning and we worked hard to be in the position to accomplish that goal, and now that we did it- it’s just spectacular, ” said senior catcher Natalie Martinez.
So far the Rebels are very satisfied with how the season is going and feel like they are hitting on all cylinders at the perfect time. With still three weeks left to play in the season, Martinez and the team are confident that they can make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
“We are expecting to go to a NCAA Regional for the first time in the history of the program and with the way we have been playing I think we can compete with anybody,” Martinez said.
Even though the team is excited about breaking the record, there is one Rebel in particular who is focusing on making individual history on the mound. Senior Pitcher Madi Osias is on the verge of breaking the single-season wins record that was set back in 1997.
“I try not to think about the record too much; I just try to focus on pitching my game because I know my teammates will handle the rest,” Osias said.
Both seniors have seen a lot during their career here in Oxford and are glad that they are leaving the program better than they found it.
“We have been here for a while, we saw the program at it’s worst and now we are seeing it at it’s best,” Osias said. “It’s awesome to know that we came so far and are finally now competitive in the SEC, and it’s a credit to our coaching staff and our team.”
The Rebels looked to continue the winning ways in the weekend conference series against Arkansas. Make sure to head out to the Ole Miss Softball Complex on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the Senior night to send our Rebels out the right way.
