Bramlett Named to National Pitcher of the Year Watch List
Ole Miss ace Brady Bramlett has been named to the watch list for the 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award, the National College Baseball Hall of Fame announced this week. Bramlett was one of 16 pitchers from the Southeastern Conference on the watch list.
“Every year, the number of quality pitchers across the country makes compiling this list difficult, and this year is no different,” said Raymond Richardson, Pitcher of the Year Award co-chair. “We are pleased to highlight so many quality athletes, and we look forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes for these young men.”
Bramlett has had a stellar year as the ace of the Rebels’ rotation. The right-hander is 6-2 on the season with a 2.19 ERA to go along with 65 strikeouts. Out his 65 strikeouts, 30 of them have been looking which ranks second in the SEC. Bramlett is one of the nation’s top pitchers in terms of strikeouts as his 11.86 strikeouts per nine innings is the 16th-best average in the country.
Over his last two starts, Bramlett has not allowed a run to cross the dish. He tied a career high with 12 strikeouts over 7.0 scoreless innings versus Arkansas (April 8). The strong performance earned him Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week accolades. Bramlett followed that outing with six more scoreless frames at Alabama (April 15). The Bartlett, Tennessee native kept the Crimson Tide off the scoreboard to lead the Rebels’ in their first shutout victory of the season.
Bramlett and the Rebels return to Swayze Field this weekend, hosting Auburn in a three-game set. First pitch is slated for 6:34 p.m. CT Friday night as Bramlett will get the ball in the series opener.
