Ole Miss Takes on Memphis in the Bluff City
The Ole Miss Diamond Rebels are stepping out of conference action for two midweek games starting tonight in Memphis against the Tigers at Autozone Park. On Wednesday, the Rebels will return to the confines of Swayze Field to host Murray State.
No. 14 Ole Miss (26-10) comes in to tonight’s game after dropping the back end of a road series to Alabama. On Sunday, the Crimson Tide defeated Ole Miss by the score of 7-2.
Junior catcher Henri Lartigue leads all SEC catchers with a .339 batting average. As his teammate Tate Blackman has reached base in 21 of 22 games. Ole Miss is outscoring opponents 38-15 in the first inning of games and holds a 14-2 record when scoring in the opening frame. The Rebels are 19-2 in non-conference games, including 8-1 in midweek games.
Let’s take a closer look at the Tigers.
Memphis enters the week with a 13-23 record after dropping two-of-three to No. 23 East Carolina over the weekend. Senior outfielder Jake Little leads Memphis with a .331 average at the plate to go along with a team-high 12 steals in 13 attempts.
Fellow outfielder Chris Carrier paces the Tigers in runs (27), doubles (11) and home runs (three). Memphis is hitting .254 as a team. On the mound, the Memphis pitching staff holds a 5.13 cumulative ERA. Daron Schoenrock is in his 14th season at the helm of the program.
Tonight fans will see two freshman hurlers go after one another in this game as James McAuthor will step to the mound for the Rebels and Jonathan Bowlan will get the nod for Memphis.
Last time Ole Miss and Memphis stepped in between the chalk to face one another the Rebels won the game by a score of 9-7.
