UM Turner Center Hosts Family Fun Night Pool Party Tonight
For the third time, the Turner Center at the University of Mississippi will be hosting the Family Fun Night Pool Party on Friday, April 15.
University of Mississippi faculty, staff and their families are welcome to join fellow co-workers for a night of games, prizes and snacks.
The Turner Center has put on this event twice before, during the spring of 2015 and during the following fall season. Both times have yielded a huge turnout, according to Claire Harris, the director of aquatics at the Turner Center. Harris has been working with Campus Recreation at Ole Miss for two years, and she said the event has been extremely successful.
“It has been a huge success both times,” Harris said. “We plan on offering the even each semester.”
According to Harris, the party will consist of multiple events including games for children, and a photo wall for families to have pictures taken.
Harris and the Turner Center faculty came up with the idea when they decided they wanted to focus on serving the Ole Miss community.
“We realized we didn’t have any programs or events specifically for University of Mississippi faculty and staff, so we decided to host a pool party,” Harris said.
Associate Director of Campus Recreation at Ole Miss, Jason Shirkey, will be attending the event for the second time this year.
“The event is great for university families to get together and connect in a safe setting geared for kids. Other than athletic events, this is the only university opportunity I know of that brings families together in an after work type setting,” Shirkey said.
Associate Professor of Elementary Music Education at Ole Miss, Andrew Paney, said he loves to bring his son to the event. “I would say he’s started to learn to swim at those family nights, and to not be afraid of water,” Paney said.
The event takes place at the Turner Center indoor pool and will last from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
