WBCA All-American Sara Lytle Inks with Union University
SENATOBIA – Northwest Mississippi Community College sophomore All-American forward Sara Lytle signed a national letter of intent on Thursday to continue her women’s basketball career at Union University.
“I’m excited that I’ll get to play with my sister (Bethany) for the third time with three different teams and I really felt like God was calling me to Union to do some work for his Kingdom,” Lytle said.
Only the second-ever WBCA All-American selection in program history and first since 1985-86, Lytle ends her Lady Ranger career fourth all-time in blocks (74), free throws made (192) and free throws attempted (281), 11th in scoring (655 points) and 14th in rebounds/game (6.7).
Lytle averaged averaged 17.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks-per-game this season – all team highs – en route to first team all-conference and all-region honors. She was also named to the NJCAA Region 23 All-Tournament Team and earned MACJC and NJCAA Division I National Co-Player of the Week honors during the year.
The Memphis native (Evangelical Christian School) scored in double figures in all but four games this season, posting nine double-doubles and scoring 20 or more eight times. She shot a team-high 51 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the stripe, and in addition to averaging a near double-double, added 52 blocks, 35 assists and 22 steals.
She’s the 19th Lady Ranger to continue her career at the next level since 2009-10 under head coach Don Edwards.
