Thacker Mountain Radio Hour To Perform at Juke Joint Festival
Thacker Mountain Radio Hour will perform at the New Roxy Theater in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on Friday at 6 p.m. The show will feature live blues music from Bilbo Walker and Hattiesburg duo Robert “Lil’ Poochie” Watson and Hezekiah Early with live literature from acclaimed author Robert Gordon.
The free show is part of Clarksdale’s 13th annual Juke Joint Festival. The festival celebrates Mississippi’s past and present blues culture with over 100 blues acts over the course of the weekend.
“No festival in the world better illustrates the surviving Mississippi and Southern blues tradition,” said Roger Stolle, music director of the non-profit festival.
The New Roxy Theater, located in the historic New World District of Clarksdale, was once a movie theater. After about 30 years of vacancy, the New Roxy has been revived as a popular music and art venue.
“It’s pretty incredible that people come from all over the country for Juke Joint, and all we have to do is drive down the road,” said Cameron Premo, a regular attendee of Thacker Mountain Radio Hour.
