Kiwanis Club Celebrates Double Decker Art with Students
Yesterday evening was special – especially to a handful of extraordinary grade school kids (grades 3-6) as they proudly accepted awards for their artistic efforts with Double Decker-themed drawings and paintings. The event – Oxford Kiwanis Club’s Inaugural Double Decker Art Contest Awards Reception – was held at the Allen Samuels Showroom and showcased over 400 entrants to the contest.
Those in attendance: UM Chancellor Jeff Vitter – check; Oxford Mayor Pat Patterson – check; and a drove a parents, family, teachers and friends of the aspiring artists – check; all of whom gathered in the car dealership showroom to snack and – well, get their art on.

Prizes were awarded in each grade level. First Place winners received “Chicken for a Year” provided by the local Chick-fil-A restaurant. Second Place winners received one and a half hours of bowling for up to six people including shoe rentals, one large pizza and one pitcher of soda along with five $5 game cards, one LazerMaze Challenge and two Malco movie passes. Third Place winners received a T-shirt and gift basket from Holli’s Sweet Tooth as well as a $25 gift certificate from Square Books.
Title sponsors of the event included Chick-fil-A, Premier Lanes Family Entertainment Center, Holli’s Sweet Tooth, McDonald’s Restaurant and Office Depot and all money raised benefitted the Oxford Kiwanis Club.
