Gov. Phil Bryant Talks About Afghanistan Trip, Legislation On Radio Show
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant went on Super Talk FM this morning to talk briefly about a recent trip to Afghanistan and the current legislation session.
Afghanistan
Gov. Bryant flew to Afghanistan over a week ago to visit with Mississippi service men and women.
Gov. Bryant told Paul Gallo, of the Gallo Radio Show on Super Talk FM, that Afghanistan still has some work to do. As an example, the governor told Gallo that his plane did not slow down on the landing until the plane wheels hit the run way. According to Gov. Bryant, the reason for the unusual landing is so that the plane is not an easy target to shoot down.
Upon landing in Afghanistan, the governor said he was greeted by a Mississippi soldier from Carthage. While on foreign soil, Gov. Bryant met with and thanked the soldiers for their service.
“What they do is truly amazing,” Gov. Bryant also wrote on Facebook. “I want to thank General John W. Nicholson, Commander Resolute Support and U.S. Forces Afghanistan. God Bless our troops.”
Legislation
After talking to Gallo about his trip overseas, the governor shared some updates on the current legislation that is being passed.
One particular bill that has gotten much attention in the last few weeks is Bill 2438, which would end the election of school superintendents and start the appointment process of the superintendents. The governor said he is in favor of this bill because it would help Mississippi get the best qualified person in the job position.
The appointed superintendents would be appointed by the local school boards, and the term would last for four years. This process would not start until 2019.
