Yalobusha Giants Baseball Dominate FNC Tournament
The Yalobusha Giants Baseball Club fielded seven teams at this weekend’s Men of Steal-Global World Series Qualifier baseball tournament held at FNC Park. The tournament boasted 144 teams competing for the Championships in eight divisions ranging from 7U-14U age groups. The Yalobusha Giants Baseball Club had seven teams participate in this weekend’s tournament and took the Championship in three divisions: 8U, 11U, and 13U.
“We were proud of the way all of our kids competed this weekend. We hit the ball well. Our parents are seeing the benefits of their kids working so hard in the indoor hitting facility at the Oxford Lafayette Sportsplex,” said Coach Russ Pratt. “We still have a lot of work to do with our pitching and defense, but our organization is off to a good start for the season.”
The 8U Giants team is coached by Chip Wade, former University of Georgia catcher and current associate MLB scout with the New York Mets. The 8U Giants were 4-0 on the weekend bringing their season total to 13-2.
The 11U Giants team is coached by Whit Long and Curt Sanders. The 11U Giants weekend was highlighted by beating two of the top 10 teams in the Southeast on the road to the Championship. They scored 32 runs while allowing only one run scored on Championship Sunday.
The 13U Giants team is coached by Greg Varner and Jason Jenkins. The 13U Giants team compiled a total record for the weekend of 14-0. The 13U team had 10 home runs for the weekend led by Trace Bufkin with five home runs including a Grand Slam.
