In the Hall Mirrors Music In The Hall Thursday, March 24
For those who haven’t been fortunate enough to be “invited” to a Music in the Hall performance at the McDavid Law Firm over the last few years – good news; there’s a new kid in town that mirrors the popular event and everyone’s invited (up to the point of capacity).
In the Hall – an event designed not only to entertain but also to raise funds for worthy causes – has set its next show for Thursday, March 24 featuring the folk duo, Cicada Rhythm.
Tickets for the Cicada Rhythm concert are a reasonable $10 and can be purchased now on the YAC website (OxfordArts.com) or at the door on the night of the performance. The performance – set for 8 p.m. – will benefit Horizons and Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC).
Cicada Rhythm members Andrea DeMarcus and Dave Kirslis hail from Athens, Georgia, and are said to “imitate and modernize folk music to a rejuvenating degree.”
According to the YAC website: “They (DeMarcus and Kirslis) exhibit skilled and articulate guitar picking honed in the dive bars of Atlanta over rolling Julliard-trained bass lines. Listeners can expect chilling harmonies, unbridled enthusiasm, some wholesome tunes and a sincere performance.”
The McDavid Law Firm office is located at 1109 Van Buren Avenue on the Oxford Square.
Check out the embedded video (top) for a cool sample from the dynamic Georgia duo. And – for those feeling frisky – I’m not sure if Cicada Rhythm (Dave Kirslis in particular) references Davis Gray as an influence, but check out this amazing classic from Gray below and see (hear) what you think. The similarities are uncanny; and that’s one of the biggest compliments I can bestow.
Cicada Rhythm; A Natalie Merchant meets David Gray mix of sorts. AWESOME!
This one is setting up to be a performance not to be missed.
