Spring Spotlight: Akeem Judd
Akeem Judd took the rare redshirt season for a junior college transfer after arriving in Oxford from Georgia Military Institute as a member of the Rebels’ 2014 signing class. The decision for Judd to redshirt was even more surprising due to the fact he was rated as the nation’s No. 1 junior college running back in that 2014 class.
The redshirt year benefited the 5-11, 222-pounder. At times last season, as a junior, Judd flashed, finishing the Rebels’ Sugar Bowl championship campaign with 421 yards and three touchdowns on 77 carries. His yards-per-carry average of 5.5 yards was the best among all Ole Miss running backs.
Judd entered the spring as the odds-on favorite to get the bulk of the carries this fall in the Ole Miss backfield. He has the size and power to stick it between the tackles with some authority, and the stop-and-go explosiveness to make things happen in space. He is being pushed tj by junior Jordan Wilkins and redshirt freshman Eric Swinney, which should only make him better.
The Durham, N.C., senior could be poised for a breakout season, his last as a Rebel.

Is Hugh Freeze or somebody else the SEC’s No. 2 coach now?
Nick Saban is the best coach in college football. Few people outside of Urban Meyer and his backers would dispute that.
And with the SEC losing three major names — Steve Spurrier, Mark Richt and Gary Pinkel — from its head-coaching fraternity this past offseason, it’s a good time to evaluate who might be the second-best coach in the conference. Let’s take a look at whom that might be based on the following criteria: overall record, record vs. the SEC, record against Top 25 teams and number of players drafted into the NFL.
We’ve made the sample size for these criteria the past four seasons, which coincidentally is how long Hugh Freeze has been the head coach at Ole Miss. And in the essence of full disclosure, it is important to point out that Ole Miss is being investigated by the NCAA for alleged rules violations, according to the Associated Press.
RECORD (2012-15)
1. Saban (Alabama) 50-6 (.893 winning percentage), 3-2 in bowls
2. Les Miles (LSU) 37-14 (.725), 2-2 in bowls
3. Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M) 36-16 (.692), 3-1 in bowls
4. Freeze (Ole Miss) 34-18 (.654), 3-1 in bowls
5. Dan Mullen (Miss. State), 34-18 (.654), 2-2 in bowls

Rebels Pick Up Walk-On QB
McKinney (Texas) Boyd High School 2016 quarterback Grant Restmeyer has announced his intention to walk on to the Ole Miss football program.
Restmeyer made the announcement via Twitter on Wednesday. The 6-4, 200-pounder is expected to arrive in Oxford in June.
Restmeyer threw for 2,182 yards and 19 touchdowns with only five interceptions last season at McKinney Boyd. He was not rated by 247Sports.
“It was just a place that I’ve always wanted to go to,” Restmeyer told Rebels247 shortly after announcing his plans. “A lot of my friends have gone to Ole Miss. I went to a game there as a fan with one of my old baseball buddies, and I just loved the atmosphere. I’m a big Giants fan and Eli Manning went there, as well.”
Restmeyer held several Division II scholarship offers and preferred walk-on invitations to North Texas State and Texas State. He was recruited by quarterbacks coach Dan Werner and offensive line coach Matt Luke.
