Laura SandersonAmong All-American athlete recruits who have committed to Ole Miss, the Pride of the South band at Ole Miss will welcome All-American clarinet player, Laura Sanderson in August 2016.

Sanderson, a senior from Purvis High School in Purvis, Mississippi, is a clarinetist and drum major in her high school band. A usual first chair placement, Sanderson has had the honor to march in numerous honor bands in Mississippi and across the nation. Such bands include the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band at the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 9, in San Antonio, Texas.

The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band features only the 125 best high school marching band and color guard members across the nation.

“These young men and women demonstrate the U.S. Army core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honesty, integrity and personal courage in their everyday lives,” GoArmy.com said. “Like the U.S. Army All-American football players, the national selection of All-American band members is based on a broad range of attributes that go beyond performance and include qualities such as academic achievement, leadership abilities and community service.”

Among other honors and awards, Sanderson is a two-time member of the Mississippi Lion’s All-State Band on clarinet. Since performing with the Mississippi Lion’s All-State Band, Sanderson has had the opportunity to play in Canada and Hawaii and will perform in Tokyo, Japan, as the second chair for the clarinet.

Other bands Sanderson has performed with include the All-State Concert Band, USM’s All South Honor Band and is a member of the Gold Band for Southeast Mississippi Band Directors Association since the eighth grade.

The Pride of the South and Ole Miss welcomes Laura Sanderson to the Ole Miss family! Congratulations and Hotty Toddy!

Congratulations, Laura! Great choice that you will always be proud that you made. Our seats are adjacent to the band in S3 unless the band moves with the students to the newly enclosed north end zone. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting adjacent to the band in 2015!

Quality football and the Pride of the South Band…what a combination!
