University of Mississippi Student Passes Away Following Hit and Run
A 20-year-old University of Mississippi junior has passed away Sunday from her injuries caused by the hit and run early Sunday morning in Morgantown, West Virginia. Last night, the University of Mississippi confirmed her death.
Several broadcast media reported that Brandi Hephner LaBanc, the university’s vice chancellor for student affairs, released this statement via email last night: “The University of Mississippi community mourns the tragic loss of Carli Sears. We are simply heartbroken by this news. Our thoughts are with all of her family and those in the Ole Miss family that shared in her life.”
Carli Sears was a hospitality major and a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi chapter at the University of Mississippi.
WV Metro News reports: “Morgantown Police say they are looking for a black pick-up truck that struck Sears on Stewart Street then left the scene. The vehicle should have damage to the right front fender area along with possible grill and passenger mirror damage, according to police.”
Those who love Carli Sears has created an online community in her memory on Facebook: Carli Sears Memorial Page.
Its most recent status says: “For those that want to send food please send to 811 Newton Rd and we will get it to Brent and Julie Service arrangements have not been finalized but will be sometime Friday to give Carli’s friends from Ole Miss time to get here. Thank you all for your kind words.”
