Ole Miss Hosts South Carolina Tuesday Night
Ole Miss basketball returns to action Tuesday night as they host the South Carolina Gamecocks inside the Pavilion at Ole Miss. The tip off is slated for 6 p.m. on SEC Network.
Ole Miss comes into the game with a 2-3 mark in conference play and a 12-5 record over all. The Rebels are looking to bounce back after dropping Saturday’s game 80-71 to the Florida Gators. Stefan Moody lead the way in scoring for Ole Miss with 22 points on the night.
Moody scored a career-high 33 points at LSU and leads the SEC, and ranks sixth nationally, in scoring this season at 24.3 ppg. It was his 12th-straight game with 20-plus points which is the longest streak in school history since Gerald Glass posted 13 straight in 1992. He has scored 20-plus points 15 times this season and eclipsed the 30-point mark three times. He is the second highest power-conference scorer in the nation this season and holds a 19.1 ppg career scoring average, which ranks ninth in school history.
The Gamecocks are 16-1 overall, 3-1 in the SEC and ranked No. 18 in nation in the USA Today Coaches’poll and No. 24 in the Associated Press rankings. South Carolina won 15-straight games to start the season before spliting a pair of games at Alabama (L, 73-50) and versus Missouri (W, 81-72). Five Gamecock player are averaging in double figures, led by junior guard Sindarius Thornwell, who is scoring a team-best 12.5 ppg.
Senior forward Michael Carrera is close behind averaging 11.6 ppg and is pulling down a team-best 6.4 rebounds a game. Three USC players average more than 5.0 rpg and South Carolina leads the SEC in rebounding offense pulling down 41.9 boards a game. The Gamecocks also lead the conference in rebounding margin grabbing 9.5 more rebounds per game than their opponents.
When the Rebels and Gamecocks meet on the hardwood Tuesday it will be the 35th all-time match between the two schools. Ole Miss has a 18-16 advantage in the series. Last season, South Carolina defeated Ole Miss 60-58.
