Oxford Police Investigate a Shooting at Old Taylor Road on January 5
Oxford police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place Tuesday, January 5, according to a media alert issued this morning.
On Tuesday, January 5, Oxford police officers responded to a dispatch at 5:05 p.m. for an ambulance assist at 110 Old Taylor Road (CR 303). Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals at the residence with one male shot and unresponsive.
The Oxford police later identified the two individuals as Austin McLarty, 20 of Oxford, and Hunter Escue, 18 of Oxford. According to Major Jeff McCutchen who released the media alert, Hunter Escue had been shot and was unresponsive so Austin McLarty called 911. The medical staff took Escue to Baptist Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Oxford police determined that both young men were handling firearms when a shot was fired from McLarty’s weapon, fatally striking Escue.
Since the case is under investigation, the Oxford police department has not filed any charges as they are awaiting results from interviews, autopsy as well as Mississippi Crime Lab’s analyses of items from the scene.
Major Jeff McCutchen said in the alert, ” As more information becomes available, we will send out updates.”

No, that’s why people shouldn’t play with guns like they are toys. Being careless with a gun will kill you or someone else. Guns, power tools, heavy machinery, cars, etc. can all kill you or others if you don’t respect them.

That’s my very good friend I grew up with and I would very much appreciate it if you would keep your comments to yourself. I lost a great friend yesterday. You don’t know what happened yesterday, so you have no reason to put your input on this article. It was an acident and it has nothing to do with gun control. Yes I’m very upset about my friend, but if it was his time to go, it has nothing to do with gun control.

That’s my nephew you are talking about you stupid ignorant person. Not one time did it mention anyone playing with them. My nephew lost his life and his cousin is devastated. We lost an amazing young man and our family especially his mother, father, brother, or sister do not need to read such stupid comments. I pray this never happens to any of your family members. Our family is heartbroken and your a selfish jerk for your comment. The least any of you could do would be to pray for the family and stop posting stupid comments when you know nothing. Connie thank you for standing up for our family.

He was my bestfriend and my heart I knew him better than anyone, we knew each other minds without even talking, I love him and I’m living for the two of us now. I know people will talk and say bad things about me and that’s something I will have to live with for the rest of my life. Guns are not bad but I will never be able to hold one again, and if you knew me, you would no that lived and breath hunting and I can even hold a gun anymore but i ask everyone to take my words to heart when I say you have to be careful with them. Please don’t take life for granite. Because I lost my life as well that day and I will never be the same. Say what you will but we both die 01/5/15.
