Oxford Crime Report: Tuesday, January 5
On Tuesday, January 5, at approximately 5 p.m., the Oxford police officers responded a call for an ambulance assist at CR 303 off of Old Taylor Road. The caller reported to 911 that someone was shot and needed medical assistance. Upon arrival, the officers discovered two individuals at the residence where one was shot and unresponsive. The shot individual was transported to the hospital where this individual was later pronounced dead.
Major Jeff McCucthen said in an email, “It appears that the shooting was accidental, we are awaiting autopsy reports and evidence to return before a determination is made. At this time no charges have been filed and the shooting is still under investigation. We will release more later today.”
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: three suspicious activities, two 911 hang-up calls, an ambulance assist, harassing phone calls, a scam, a noise violation, a civil matter, a shoplifting, an animal complaint, an alarm and a burglary on Anchorage Road.
Oxford police investigated two wrecks, issued nine traffic citations and made two arrests on the following charges:
Malicious mischief
Warrant served
University police responded to the following incidents: a vehicle stop on university campus, two traffic details at the Pavilion and Chucky Mullins Drive, a petit larceny at Stockard Hall, a petit larceny at Tad Smith Coliseum, a service call for an ambulance at Lenoir Hall and a grand larceny at Lewis Hall.
Oxford Fire Department had no emergency calls yesterday.
