Auditions for True West Open at the Powerhouse
YAC recently announced on its website that open auditions for the upcoming play, True West, are about to take place and the casting all-call is open to everyone.
Currently, there are four roles to fill: Three adult males – Austin (early 30s), Lee (the older brother) and Saul (a seasoned producer).
There is one adult female character (Austin and Lee’s mother in her 60s) that will be cast as well.
According to True West producer, Meaghin Burke, “We haven’t filled any spots. Every role is wide open!”“I’m producing the show for Theatre Oxford,” Burke said. “Even though I’m the only listed producer, I couldn’t do it without all the help I get from the Theatre Oxford Board of Directors.”
“Kate Hooper is the director for True West and she has a ton of great ideas about this show,” Burke said. “Theatre Oxford is very excited to have her on board as she brings years of experience and knowledge to Theatre Oxford and we can’t wait to see this show under her artistic guidance.”
The play, written by Sam Shepard, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1983, centers on a sibling rivalry between grown brothers who have a modern-day showdown in their mother’s home.
“Theatre Oxford is very excited about presenting True West,” Burke added. “It’s an American classic drama that is funny, suspenseful and insightful and we’d love to see a bunch of folks at auditions.”
Auditions will be held at the Powerhouse on January 9 at 10 a.m. and scripts are now available at the Powerhouse for perusal. Although the audition material will be available at auditions, prepared monologues are welcome.
Curtains are scheduled to rise on True West at the Powerhouse on April 15-17. More information on the show will be published as we move closer to show time this spring.
