Earlier this month, after HottyToddy.com featured the lifetime activity Pickleball and the fact that the Oxford Activities Center schedules the popular program for Oxonians 40-years and -older on a weekly basis. The email and comment section on our website was inundated with notes expressing disbelief that a program with such an unlikely name actually exists.

Well, after scrambling for a couple of weeks to locate photos of Oxonians actively participating in the sport – here’s your proof.

After being informed of the community’s scattering disbelief, Oxford Activities Center director Sam Pryor began his mission to locate these great photos … even forgoing Christmas this year (just kidding) to offer the community this proof.

Pickleball is played with a modified wooden paddle and a plastic whiffle ball which slows down the pace of the activity resulting in long rallies.

Although the participants in these photos haven’t been identified, they are most certainly Oxford locals and their commitment to the popular nation-wide lifetime activity is evident.

“Pickleball is really popular here,” Pryor said. “Unfortunately at this time of year we’ve had to scale back the program due to our basketball leagues. Right now we’re playing pickleball on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.”

Oxford Park Commission encourages local residents to grab their athletic shoes and loose clothing and head to the Activities Center located at 400 Price Street in Oxford immediately across from OPD for some intense 40-and-over pickleball action. Not only is it an amazing outlet for energy expenditure and exercise; it is a highly-rated social activity that caters to all ages for its simplicity.
