Oxford Crime Report: Wednesday – Sunday, December 23 – 27
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 24 alarms, 12 suspicious activities, nine welfare concerns, eight motorist assists, seven disturbances, five fire department assists, three noise violations, two careless drivers, two malicious mischief, two scams, two lost properties, an uttering forgery, an ambulance assist, a 911 hang up call, a petit larceny, an animal complaint, a simple assault, an improper parking, and a burglary at South 16th Street.
Oxford police investigated five wrecks, issued 56 traffic citations and made seven arrests on the following charges:

Fire alarm system activation at 4:34 p.m. due to power outage at Kappa Sigma house
Smell of smoke at 6:38 p.m. that went unfounded at 8 Highland Place
Smoke detector malfunction at 8:50 p.m. at Stewart Hall

Fire alarm system activation at 5:33 a.m. due to power outage at Kappa Sigma house
Fire at 9:13 a.m. due to a resident leaving a pot holder in the oven where it caught fire at 620 North Lamar – the fire was extinguished.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol concluded its Christmas enforcement period which began Wednesday, December 23, at 6 p.m. and ended Sunday, December 27 at midnight. MHP issued 4409 citations with 85 DUI arrests. 250 motor vehicle crashes were investigated which included 81 injuries and 5 fatalities on state, federal highways, and interstates. The severe weather systems that moved through Mississippi during the enforcement period played a significant role in the high number of traffic crashes investigated.
